Mrs. Gerbitz-Davison,

I was so sorry to read that you had lost another son. I read not all that many years ago that Larry had passed on. I should have written to you then but yesterday decided that I definitely had to do so this time.

I didn’t know Lorry but I was a childhood friend of Larry. We went to Lowell School together, danced the waltz together at the 6th grade party and had our first ""date"" together.

That was a Saturday and Larry asked me to a movie at the Eastwood Theater. My parents said OK and Larry walked all the way from Fair Oaks over to 113 N. Marquette St. in his sports jacket to pick me up. After the movie, he walked me all the way back home.

He was such a sweet and gentle boy and I was so sad when I read about his too early death. It sounded like he turned out to be a kind and gentle man and Lorry sounds like the same type. You must have done a wonderful job raising those boys.

I don’t believe I ever met you but I remember where your family lived while Larry and I were kids and I remember Larry with fondness. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I know it's been a while but, I have to say something. I just found this on the Internet and was saddened to here of my good friend Lorry’s passing. Lorry and I were good friends in "A" school in Millington Tennessee. Lorry and his wife (Cheryl, I think) and my wife at the time, hung out together a lot. It was some of the best times I can remember. I remember Lorry went on to MATQ, which is an advanced school for ground RADAR and I went on to AFTA (advanced Avionics). I remember one day, I stopped by their apartment and Lorry was painting pin-stripes on his car. I was so impressed at how good it looked and he said that was what he did back home in Wisconsin. After 1977, we had our separate orders and lost touch, at least, I thought we had.
I was ordered to report to MCAS Eltoro, CA. and was assigned to an A6E Squadron, VMA(AW)242. One morning, as all of the Marines in the squadron lined up on the flight line to do our morning FOD walk (Foreign Objects Damage or pick up debris), we were about half way down the line and I saw a familiar face. He looked like Lorry, but younger. It was Jeff. I asked if he was related to a guy I knew and school. He answered Lorry was his brother. Jeff and Susan and I and my wife became great friends at that time. We even went camping together. I wish I had kept in touch through all of these years.
I am extremely proud to say, Lorry and I were friends and I know the world is a better place because of Lorry.
